Whole Foods Market - Raleigh's 19th annual Dog Wash
On Sunday, May 2, the Raleigh store held its 19th annual Dog Wash to benefit the Wake County SPCA. This was our first “wet wash” in four years – drought conditions years past relegated us to “bone-dry” grooming events. We scheduled it earlier than usual to avoid the heat – and ended up with the hottest May 2 on record!
All told, we washed 195 dogs and raised over $3,000 for the SPCA! Well, I say “we” – but SPCA volunteers did all the washin’. We sold t-shirts (designed by Pablo, printed by LOCAL business TS Designs on recycled materials!) and lunch, and ran contests – Best Singer, Best Trick, Longest Hair, and Pet/Owner Lookalike. Hot dogs and veggie dogs were donated by Brat Hans and Lightlife, and Odwalla pitched in with Simply Lemonades – thus we were able to direct a large portion of the food proceeds to the SPCA. We had a great DJ who gave us a 50% discount since it was a charity fundraiser. The tent/table/chair company even knocked off some set-up charges – everyone just LOVES this event and was so kind with their contributions. Pet Guard donated shampoo and prize plaques, and we had some LOCAL vendors out, such as Coastal Canine Catering.
